Our manufacturer’s reference projects show results with an average reduction of 98% under the upcoming ECHA restriction of 1 ppm (1,000,000 ng/l).

What is PFAS?
PFAS are considered emerging pollutants
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of synthetic chemicals characterized by their strong bonding between carbon and fluorine atoms. These substances are designed to repel water, grease and dirt, making them useful in a wide range of applications, such as:
-
Packaging materials: for food packaging, such as pizza boxes and popcorn bags.
-
Clothing: water-repellent and stain-resistant treatments.
-
Detergents: for their ability to emulsify grease and oil.
-
Fire extinguishing agents: especially in foam used in fire fighting.
How does PFAS contamination occur?
Firefighting foams, especially AFFF (Aqueous Film-Forming Foam), are a major source of PFAS contamination. This type of foam is widely used in military, aviation, and industrial firefighting, particularly for liquid fuel fires such as
oil and petrol fires.
The widespread use of AFFF has led to PFAS contamination in soil, groundwater, surface water and drinking water sources, making the use of PFAS in firefighting foams a major environmental issue.

About Borboshield
Specialist in PFAS cleaning
Borboshield helps companies switch to fluorine-free foam by effectively cleaning pipes, vehicles, tanks and soil from PFAS contamination.
Together with LifeClean from Sweden we offer a specially developed cleaning method with minimal rebound. Borboshield is using the Lifeclean method in the Netherlands and Belgium.
With this specially developed method, we offer a practical and reliable way to tackle global PFAS pollution. In this way, we contribute to environmental protection and help companies comply with legislation and regulations.
History
Of PFAS-containing firefighting foam
PFAS-containing firefighting foam, better known as Aqueous Film-Forming Foam (AFFF), has been used for decades to fight fires involving flammable liquids such as oil, petrol and jet fuel. Thanks to AFFF's unique properties (forming a protective film, suppressing fuel vapours and preventing re-ignition) it became an essential technology for challenging fire scenarios. Until recently, AFFF was widely used at military facilities, civilian airports, oil terminals, chemical facilities and fire brigades.
